Walnut Saplings for Nurseries and Resellers
Waltree Nursery is a wholesale walnut nursery at Bandirma in Turkey. We have been grafting saplings here since 1992, we grow more than 350,000 a year on 15 hectares, and we export around 90 percent of them. We sell to two kinds of customer: growers planting their own orchards, and nurseries and resellers who sell the trees on in their own country. This page is about the second kind.
Who This Page Is For
You run a nursery, a garden centre or a tree business, and you want to buy grafted walnut saplings in quantity to sell on to your own customers. You might resell them as they arrive, grow them on for a season first, or place them with orchard growers you already supply. All three are ordinary business for us. The quote form asks whether you are buying for your own orchard or to resell, and this is why: the two orders are built differently.
The order a reseller places usually has a different shape from the one a grower places: a different mix of grades, a repeating quantity each season, and delivery timed against your own selling window rather than against a planting date. That is why the quote form asks which of the two you are -- so that what we send back fits the way you actually buy. If you are looking for a few trees for a garden, we are the wrong supplier and a nursery in your own country will serve you better. We sell by the truckload, and we would rather say so now than take you through a quote that was never going to work.
One Distributor Per Market
We appoint one distributor per country rather than several. Where a market already has one, enquiries from that country go to them rather than to us: competing with our own partner inside their territory would be a poor way to treat somebody who has built the demand there. If you are in Croatia, Bulgaria or Georgia and the site has given you a local phone number instead of a price list, that is what has happened.
Where a market has no distributor, the territory is open and we are interested in talking. We would far rather work with a nursery that already sells trees in a country, and knows its planting season, its import paperwork and what growers there will actually pay, than ship into that market blind. What an arrangement involves depends on the market, so there is no standard contract to publish here; write to us and we will tell you plainly whether we think the territory can support one.
Buying wholesale and holding a distributor appointment are two different things, and most of the nurseries we supply are not distributors. If your country already has one, write to us anyway and say what you have in mind. Depending on the market and the quantity, the right answer may be an introduction to them rather than a quote from us, and we will tell you which it is rather than leave you guessing.
Our Distributors
Four markets have a local distributor. Each is an independent company with its own business, its own customers and its own stock, and each is the first point of contact for buyers in that country.

What We Do for Our Distributors
A distributor gets more from us than stock. Enquiries that reach us from your country are passed to you rather than answered from Turkey, so the buyers our own site and advertising bring in become your customers as well as ours. That is the practical meaning of one distributor per market: the market is worked once, by the company that is actually in it.
We also pay for digital advertising aimed at your market, so that you are selling into demand that already exists rather than creating all of it yourself. What that looks like depends on the country and on what you are already doing, so tell us where you advertise now when you first write to us.
Volumes, Minimum Order and Repeat Supply
The question most resellers ask first is not what one order costs but whether we can keep supplying them. Our nursery at Bandirma covers 15 hectares and produces more than 350,000 grafted walnut trees a year, and we have been grafting walnut since 1992, so an order of several thousand trees is routine work rather than something we have to make room for. We have exported to 35 countries. A standing quantity every season is easier for us to plan around than a one-off order of the same size, not harder.
There is a minimum order, and it depends on where the trees are going rather than on a company rule. A shipment has to fill enough of a truck to be worth sending, so the threshold is lower for a destination we can reach overland in two days than for one that needs a long haul or air freight. The figure we publish as a general guide is 3,000 trees. For some destinations it is lower and for a few it is higher, so tell us your country and the number you have in mind and we will confirm it in our reply.
Everything else about how an order runs is the same for a reseller as for a grower: how a quote is built, who arranges the transport, what the payment stages are, which documents travel with the trees and what to do if something arrives damaged. What You Would Be Reselling
You will have to describe these trees to your own customers before you have them in front of you, so here is the specification in full. Every tree is a two-year-old grafted sapling on Juglans regia, lifted bare-root while dormant, and we sort them into three height grades. You can order a mix of grades in one consignment, which is worth knowing if your customers are not all buying for the same thing.

We graft six commercial varieties and two pollenizers, and the price per tree is the same whichever you choose. Chandler and Fernor move in the largest numbers, but which will sell in your market depends on what your growers are already planting, so it is worth reading the varieties we graft before you commit a season to one of them.
The Season and Your Selling Window
We lift and ship bare-root trees between November and April, while they are dormant. That matters more to a reseller than to a grower: your own customers buy in their local planting window, so the stock has to reach you before that window opens, which in practice means deciding a season ahead rather than in the month you want the trees.
